When one of the world’s leading suppliers to the oil and gas industry wanted to develop a global view into company inventory management, they needed a sophisticated set of scripts to analyze available data, and a graphical interface to review the results.
The company wanted to combine IDEA’s powerful analytics with Tableau’s interactive data visualization capabilities to glean more meaningful insights from their data. The company reached out to the Solutions Development team at Audimation Services to develop an IDEAScript toolbox to address four inventory process issues: accrual, adjustment, invoices not received and adequacy of obsolescence provisions.
The Solutions Development team used IDEA to prepare Inventory Key Performance Indicator data to import into Tableau. Data was managed through 35 GeoMarket Regions, which were grouped into the following categories: North America, Latin America, Europe & Africa, Russia, Middle East and Asia.
IDEAScripts were developed to provide data, which was used to populate Tableau graphs to track the following:
- Inventory consumption accrual balances
- Provide data that identifies quantity adjustments made in the inventory subsystem as a result of count discrepancies identified
- Identify invoices not received that have aged over 90 days
- Calculate the adequacy of obsolescence provisions as a percentage of inventory balance
The toolkit of scripts, which integrated with the company’s Lawson ERP system and SAP, provided the company with an automated process for importing, analyzing and viewing results to effectively manage the company’s inventory. Stakeholders are able to quickly identify areas of risk and improvement, and track trends over time. The automated workflow also saved hundreds of hours in gathering data from different systems for analysis.
