IDEA Version 8.5 Released to Address MS Office 2010 Issues
CaseWare IDEA, Inc. has released the v8.5 update for IDEA. This update includes:
- Microsoft Excel 2010 files can now be imported into IDEA.
- The Report Reader's PDF converter has been enhanced to convert more non-standard PDF files.
- The import of Text delimited files will now support 2 characters for field delimiters.
- Language Browser for IDEAScript has been totally rewritten and is now searchable and accessible from the main IDEA Help Table of Contents.
- IDEA Server 4.5 now supports the latest version of Windows and SQL Server.
With the release of Microsoft Office 2010, Microsoft stopped allowing users to read or create Access format files if a fully licensed copy of Access is not installed on the user's computer. Because CaseWare IDEA did not want to ask users to purchase Access or run SQL server on their computers, CaseWare IDEA has changed the way information is stored in some parts of IDEA.
In addition, due to instability issues with Microsoft drivers, the following functionality has had to be
removed from IDEA:
- Exports to Microsoft Access 2007-2010 databases
- Direct import of Microsoft Access 2007-2010 databases

To download this update you may either:
Open IDEA, go to the Help menu and select Check for Updates.

Visit the CaseWare IDEA support site and download the software directly. You must have a login ID to access the CaseWare IDEA support site. If you do not have a login ID, you may request login approval from the login webpage. It may take 24 hours or more to receive your approval notice after you enter your request.
