Self-Study Materials
IDEA Case Study Part I is a basic introduction to IDEA. Among the capabilities you will learn are aging reports, sample selection, data extraction, and custom report preparation. Part II consists of some advanced exercises allowing you to apply your knowledge and understanding of Part I. Part III requires you to plan an inventory audit program and use IDEA to examine an inventory file. Part I should be completed before attempting Part II or Part III. Introduction to IDEA 2002 A guide designed to provide an overview of IDEA 2002 that will lead users through the process of importing files and performing several analytical functions. Because the IDEA software provides users with extensive functionality, this can can only expose users to a small portion of that functionality. However, this exposure should provide a basis for users who would like to further investigate IDEA's functionality on their own. The Introduction to IDEA guide and sample data files are included in a self-extracting zip file. Simply run the executable and the files will extract to "C:\Program Files\IDEA\Tutorial". Introduction to IDEA 2002 (32k) IDEA 2002 Workbook This Workbook has been produced as a comprehensive tutorial for new IDEA users in North America who are unable to attend a scheduled training course in their area. It goes into more depth than the Getting Started Tutorial in the IDEA 2002 Users Guide and illustrates some common audit tests. Step-by-step instructions with solutions are provided to explain how to perform 3 separate audits/investigations as follows:
Each of these audits/investigations increases in complexity in using IDEA’s functions and tests, building on the experience learned in earlier sections. Therefore, it is recommended that the sections be carried out in sequence. However, users may also wish to review a particular section before conducting a similar audit or investigation. Each section within an audit/investigation has an audit objective as well as an IDEA lesson objective explaining the particular features of IDEA to be learned during the exercise. The data files for each audit/investigation have been
provided on the accompanying diskette. The data files have been created in
a variety of file formats to give experience of importing data from a number
of difference sources. The numbers of records and fields within each data file
have been restricted for speed and practicality.
