Eastern Michigan University Receives $75,000 Software Donation from IDEA Academic Partnership


Houston – November 14, 2012 – Eastern Michigan University has joined the IDEA Academic Partnership and received a network license of IDEA® – Data Analysis Software to help accounting and finance students gain a competitive edge by working with the same technology used by accountants, auditors, and financial professionals.

The in-kind donation, valued at $75,000, will enable students to learn hands-on data analysis techniques to help their future employers reduce losses due to fraud, waste, and error. Eastern Michigan University joins more than 170 colleges and universities throughout the U.S. that participate in the IDEA Academic Partnership which is focused on helping students develop critical thinking skills and gain valuable experience.

Professor of Accounting Barbara Ross conducts research in the areas of accounting information systems and auditing and has served as the Accounting Information Systems Chairperson for the Midwest Association Meeting. Dr. Ross selected IDEA over other available technologies for its ease of use and the accessibility of the IDEA Academic Partnership. She was so confident that her students would gain essential skills from using IDEA that she personally paid the small upgrade fee to get the full professional version of the software installed in the university’s computer lab, versus the educational version.
