Mark Mayberry Receives 2011 IDEA® User of Excellence Award

Houston – Sept. 14, 2011 – Audimation Services, Inc. has selected Mark Mayberry, IT Senior Business Systems Analyst with BDO USA, LLP, as the recipient of the 2011 IDEA User of Excellence Award. He was selected for using IDEA in innovative ways to help clients maintain business continuity, uncover fraud, and most importantly, sharing his knowledge with others.
 

An avid IDEA user since 1993, Mayberry incorporated IDEA on both internal and external projects. He used IDEA to uncover a material financial statement fraud involving a construction company that was shifting costs, time and materials between projects in an effort to conceal project losses that would have resulted in the loss of their bond, and eventual bankruptcy. Mayberry used IDEA to perform additional analyses that allowed the company to correct adjustments and remain in business. In another example, Mayberry utilized IDEA in a class-action lawsuit against a financial institution that issued credit cards in the subprime market and was charging customers excessive fees. His analysis resulted in a multimillion-dollar settlement.

“When I joined the National Assurance department at BDO in 2003, IDEA was taught to a selective group of power users, and knowing what a valuable tool it can be, I have worked to fully incorporate IDEA training into our milestone courses within the specific audit modules,” said Mayberry. “When we teach our staff how to perform audit procedures for financial statement areas, we teach risk assessment, planning audit procedures, then how to conduct relevant, productive procedures utilizing the functionality of IDEA and SmartAnalyzer. Knowing how technology can be applied to all these areas is mission-critical.”
