If you begin tasks with the end in mind, you will be more productive. By asking questions such as, “What information do we need to get the result we need?” Or, “Would this task be performed faster if we used IDEA instead of Excel?” This session explores an automated process the Virginia Tech auditors use to collect data from four different sources to produce useful reports. Develop your skills in building a data analytics process starting with the end result to achieve a specific goal.

As Senior Auditor for Data Analytics with Virginia Tech, Trevor specializes in analyzing data related to established audit procedures and discovering new ways to use analytics to guide continuous monitoring and risk assessment efforts. Trevor previously worked at Virginia’s Auditor of Public Accountants as a Senior Auditor and Information Security Specialist. He has spent more than 15 years in corporate and non-profit management, accounting operations, information systems development and management, and consulting.
After completing this training, participants will learn:
  • Review the output of current processes and identify outputs that add value
  • Identify matches between Excel functionality and functions within IDEA
  • Develop a path to move procedures from Excel to IDEA
