O&G Supplier Uses IDEA to Test Controls Across Multiple ERP Systems

Analytic Toolbox Helps Test Revenue & Receivables Controls

Client:

A Global 500 supplier of technology, integrated project management and information solutions to the oil and gas industry needed to process data from their ERP systems to test controls for revenues and receivables.

Challenge:

Large amounts of data, stored in multiple ERP systems and formats, created a challenge for auditors to effectively test critical financial areas. The company also needed a way to produce, manage and share results.

Solution:

The Solutions Development team created a suite of customized tests designed to interrogate financial data for outliers and anomalies. A custom IDEAScript was developed to automate the testing process and deliver consistent results.

Results:

The Analytic Toolbox enabled the client to process seven different data sets in multiple locations, and import the data into IDEA for testing. Results were presented in pivot table format and included color codes to quickly identify key areas of interest.  The Toolbox also helped automatically configure date formats for global consistency. The new solutions provided consistent results and improved preparation of revenue data to assist field auditors with performing inspections.
